Deity: Ksitigarbha (地藏王菩萨) – One of the four great Bodhisattvas of Chinese Buddhism. As stated in the Ksitigarbha Ten-Wheel Sutra: "Steadfast as the earth, contemplative as the hidden treasury," hence the name Earth Treasury. He made the great vow: "Until the hells are empty I will not become a Buddha; only when all sentient beings are liberated will I attain Bodhi." Thus he is called the Great Vow Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
